Caps United are likely to face sanction by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for the rowdy behaviour of their fans that led to the abandonment of their league match against Chicken Inn at Gwanzura Stadium on Saturday.

The match was called off three minutes into eight minutes of added time when Caps United fans rained missiles onto the pitch with their side trailing 2-0.

It was the second time the match was stopped as the fans had started showing signs of frustration by throwing missiles that led to a five-minute stoppage midway through the second half.

Chicken Inn had found their goals through Leniency Mpofu who was later given a red card and Evans Chikwaikwai.

PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele yesterday said the offenders would definitely face punishment.

“I’m yet to get all the details of what transpired as I was out of office. I will make an official announcement tomorrow (today) when I get all the match officials’ reports. It’s too early in the season and we don’t expect such behaviour, so if they are found guilty, they will be punished,” said Ndebele.

Last season, Caps United were fined after their fans were found guilty of causing the abandonment of their league match against Gunners.

They were fined $3 000 and the abandoned match was given to Gunners on a 3-0 scoreline.

Following this precedent, Chicken Inn are likely to walk away with all the three points.
