It’s all systems go as the country’s 10 provinces clash in the National Association of Secondary School Heads cross-country, track and field competitions a Plumtree High School this morning.

The competition ends tomorrow and will see Bulawayo, Harare, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Midlands, Masvingo, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Manicaland and Mashonaland West athletes in action.

The cross-country championships will see athletes battling it out in the 3 000m race which is slotted for the Under-16, U-18 and U-20 girls while the Under-18 and Under-20 boys will take part in the 5 000m race.

Other races include the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races for all age groups. Athletes will also participate in the 4x100m and 4x100m relays as well as medley relays. Field events on offer include shot putt, discus, javelin, triple jump, long jump and high jump.

Mashonaland East were last year’s winners with 26 gold, 15 silver and 25 bronze medals while Matabeleland South came second with 18 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze. Manicaland were in position three with 14 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze.
