Gospel diva Amanda Sagonda is set to feature in an upcoming comedy dubbed Gringo the Troublemaker.

The comedy, which goes on the market soon, is the latest offering from Lazarus “Gringo” Boora. In an interview with NewsDay, Sagonda said she was happy to feature in the comedy although she would have a cameo role.

“I am happy to feature in the comedy. I will not have a major role, but this will be my chance to show fans that I can do both, acting and singing,” said Sagonda.

“I will only appear on one scene as a stranger who meets Gringo when he gets lost, but next time I will soon act on another comedy, taking a bigger role.” Director of the comedy, Enock Chihombori, said they decided to have Sagonda in the comedy after realising she was a good actress.

“She is good at acting, that is why we have decided to include her in the comedy. Next time she will feature as a major character,” said Chihombori.

He said the story is about a young man, John, who tries hard to impress his girlfriend.

He goes to a traditional healer for assistance to get rich quickly.

Unfortunately, John meets Gringo who tempers with the traditional herbs and everything goes horribly wrong.

The producers were putting final touches on the comedy and by the end of this month Sagonda’s fans will sample the musician’s acting side of the arts.

Sagonda is well-known for hits like Mwari Vanoziva and Jesu Number One.

She dazzled many with her energetic stage performance on several gospel shows.

However, she had sunk into oblivion over the past few years and her role in the comedy could signal her return to the limelight.

Sagonda will join the long list of local musicians who have featured in films that includes Oliver Mtukudzi, Elijah Madzikatire, Kudzai Sevenzo, Amos Mahendere, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana and Jah Prayzah.
