Artists’ children seem to always aspire to follow in their parents’ footsteps.

Cases of sons taking after their fathers have become commonplace in music, but the latest case in this trend comes from the comedy scene. Taurai Boora (19), who is Lazarus “Gringo” Boora’s first born, has decided to pursue comedy, which made his father famous.

Taurai, who calls himself “Gringaldino”, recently left audiences laughing their lungs out at a musical event in Rusape when he displayed some of his comical antics.

His acting strikingly resembles his father’s comics that endeared him with television viewers through his Gringo series.

Speaking to NewsDay Taurai said he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps after realising he had the talent. The young comedian is also a dancer.

“My father inspired me to venture into acting and he even gave me the attire he used in his first dramas. I am still learning a lot from him,” said Taurai.

He said he was supposed to feature in the new Gringo drama, but it was shot while he was at school.

However, Taurai said he had decided to take up both acting and dancing so as to have diversity in his career which he said will help him.

Asked how he hoped to make it in the acting industry, the young actor said his father had taken him on roadshows held in the capital last year and that experience boosted his confidence.

“When I finished my “O” Level last year, my father took me for roadshows and most people appreciated my talent. The shows gave me a lot of confidence and I now know I can make it to another level.”

Contacted for comment Gringo said he would take the young man everywhere he goes. “I decided to take him with me after realising that he is good at acting and I am happy that he is doing well,” said Gringo.

“In the next drama, he will feature playing a big role and I am happy that even if I die Gringo will be alive in my son.” Gringo will soon release his latest comedy titled Gringo The Troublemaker.
