ZBC will not broadcast the 2012 edition of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League either on TV or radio. Public relations manager Sivukile Simango said in a statement yesterday: “The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) regrets to advise that negotiations which would have culminated in the broadcasting of Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches on both radio and television have stalled as there was no headway in discussions between the PSL, its sponsors and ZBC.

“While ZBC had called for dialogue, the PSL and its sponsors saw it fit to engage foreign media companies to cover its matches while excluding ZBC from the negotiations. In that respect, ZBC respects the decision of the PSL and its sponsors to exclude it from covering PSL matches.

“While ZBC would have liked to broadcast all local football matches to its vast numbers of viewers and listeners throughout the country, it seems the PSL and its sponsors seem to have other ideas. However, ZBC is negotiating with individual clubs who may wish to broadcast their matches.

“We would like to apologise to all soccer fans in the country about the unfortunate turn of events. ZBC will continue to broadcast all other sports, including soccer, that are not under the jurisdiction of the PSL.”
