Castle Lager Premier Soccer League team Buffaloes shot-stopper Tapiwa Mafunga is delighted to face his former paymasters Monomotapa in the first fixture of the season at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.

Mafunga was part of the team which survived relegation on the last day of the campaign last season after beating Masvingo United 2-O in the capital, in a match Yuna Yuna needed either a draw or win to avoid the dreaded chop.

The football gods were heavily against the Busmen as other relegation candidate Shabanie Mine unexpectedly won 2-0 against Highlanders at Maglas Stadium and avoided relegation by virtue of a superior goal difference over Masvingo.

Mafunga, who played for the Taurai Mangwiro-coached squad for three seasons spoke to NewsDay Sport at Buffaloes new training ground, Mutare Showgrounds, saying he was confident they were going to collect their first set of three points on Sunday.

“It is interesting to face your former teammates. The fact we played together last year and that we are set to meet again for the first game is just interesting. l am just excited, but am confident we are going to win on Sunday, but it will not be an easy match. My wish is to keep a clean sheet,” he said.

“We know each other very well. I know their weaknesses and strengths and they also know mine. What is important for us is to win since we are at home. This will be good for us because this will boost morale in our camp,” he said.
