The national U-20 women football team will leave tomorrow for Nigeria ahead of the two teams Fifa U-20 Womens World Cup qualifier this Saturday.

The Young Mighty Warriors take on the highly-rated Falconets in the first round, first leg at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta with the reverse fixture set for Harare two weeks later.

Women football boss Mavis Gumbo yesterday said the team, which returned to the capital on Friday after a two-week training camp in Hwange, will leave Harare in the morning and stop-over in South Africa before connecting to Lagos in the afternoon.

The Langton Giwa-coached side is expected to touch down at Murtala Muhammad Airport at around 2000hrs. They will then make a 76km road trip from the Nigerian capital to the hosting city.

Meanwhile, the Falconets were over the weekend handed a surprise package of N120 000 by the Abuja-based All-Stars Team.

The team had arrived at the Fifa Goal Project for its normal training session in the morning, but had to wait briefly for the All-Stars Team made up of ex-internationals, businessmen and professionals who were training on the pitch to round off.

Thereafter the players were about to make their way onto the pitch, when they were briefly asked to stay behind by the All-Stars Team for the brief presentation which was done by one of its members, Tony Elumelu.

Elumelu, who is also a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, said the girls were able to win their hearts due to their dedication to training.

Not even the Super Falcons have been able to defeat us. The least they have secured is a draw, so this gift is just to encourage you and let you know that we are solidly behind you in your campaign, said Elumelu.

Elumelu pledged that more would be done for the girls by the team if they win the 2012 Fifa U-20 Womens World Cup in Japan in September.

In response, assistant coach Chris Nwachi and team captain Gloria Ofoegbu thanked members of the team for the gesture while promising not to disappoint Nigerians.
