A 24-year-old woman was killed over the weekend after she went to a 17-year-old debtor’s homestead to claim $5 owed to her younger brother.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the death of Shaylock Mabvurira on Saturday at Plot 16, Village 4, Sadomba Extension, Murereka in Chinhoyi.

Mabgweazara said on the fateful day at around noon, Mabvurira went to Munyaradzi Keto’s homestead and demanded $5 that the teenager owed her younger brother Witness Mabvurira (age not given).

“A misunderstanding arose resulting in a fight between the now deceased and Keto. The accused armed himself with a hoe handle which he allegedly used to strike Mabvurira several times all over the body and she collapsed and died,” said the police spokesperson.

The deceased’s father, Aswell Nyahuri was alerted before reporting the murder to ZRP Murereka leading to Keto’s arrest.

The deceased’s body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital while Keto is in police custody.
