A former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) sergeant Charles Madondo was recently apprehended over allegations of stealing cellphone airtime cards and vegetables from a vendor in Hatfield, Harare.
Madondo (38) used to be a member of the ZRP based in Chitungwiza.
It is alleged that on October 25 last year, Madondo approached Susan Marimo who was selling vegetables and recharge cards at the corner of St Patricks and Kilwinning road in Hatfield.
At that time Madondo was reportedly wearing a police uniform. He allegedly accused Marimo of operating illegally before producing a $100 note claiming he wanted to buy airtime worth $40 and tomatoes worth $10.
When Marimo indicated that she did not have enough change, Madondo grabbed the goods and left without paying for them.
Marimo made a police report at Hatfield Police Station on the same day leading to Madondos arrest on March 17.
He was detained at Hatfield police station on DB Number 216/12.
Part of the police report reads:The accused could be behind the masterminding of some criminal activities such as robbery since he is well versed with the area.
