Petra High School student Jamie Isemonger raked three medals in the prestigious Level Three Swimming Championships in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in a tournament which ended on Tuesday.

Isemonger, a junior swimmer, who jetted into Bulawayo’s Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport aboard a South African Airways flight on Wednesday, scooped gold (200m breaststroke), silver (50m breaststroke) and bronze (100m breaststroke) in the boys Under-14 category.

He clocked two minutes 29secs in the 200m, 31secs in the 50m and one minute 10secs in the 100m race.

Soon after his arrival, Isemonger, who is with Bulawayo swimming club, The Penguins and is coached by Mirenda Gibbons, told NewsDay Sport he was excited to have won the medals.

“I feel very proud that I got the medals. I am very lucky to have taken part and won medals in such a tournament. I am already looking at next year’s competition,” he said.

Isemonger impressed in the National Senior Swimming Championships that were held in Bulawayo last month.

He picked up gold in the 200m individual medley in two minutes 27,54secs in the boys 15-16 category and scooped gold in the 100m breaststroke in one minute 10,80secs, grabbing yet another in the 100m butterfly in one minute 3,32secs.
