Highlanders have signed 10 new players for the 2012 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season to be registered with the top-flight football league today.

Although club secretary Andrew Tapela could not be drawn to divulge figures involved yesterday, the biggest signings at the Bulawayo football giants are anchorman Mthulisi Maphosa, midfielder Bhekimpilo Ncube from FC Platinum and former Motor Action midfielder-cum-striker Masimba Mambare.

Bosso yesterday released their 30-member squad for the 2012 season, which also includes former Motor Action player Milton Ncube, Black Mambas defender Atlast Musasa, Dumisani “Fazo” Ndlovu, Beaven Chikaka and goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya, who were with relegated Zimbabwe Saints last year. Also signed with Highlanders are midfielder Heritani Masuku, who played for the club’s juniors, had a stint with Njube Sundowns and last year played for Chicken Inn and Peter Moyo from Quelaton.

Tapela said all the nine, and other players who have signed with Highlanders penned contracts ranging from two years to more.

“I will not be giving you figures but I can tell you that all these players have signed more than two-year contracts with us,” Tapela said.

He however said they had failed to secure the services of the two Zambians — striker Nasha Kaaya and attacking midfielder George Mubita — due to the international clearance logistics.

The five-player PSL quota for juniors includes goalkeeper Ashley Katsande, Lewis Ncube, Status Nsingo, Bobby Nkomo and Ryan Howes. Also graduating from the juniors to the senior team is Ozias Zibande.

Highlanders retained goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, defenders Innocent Mapuranga, Lawson Nkomo, Bruce Tshuma, Tendai Ndlovu and Honest Moyo. Midfielders Eric Mudzingwa, Simon Munawa, Knox Mutizwa Munyaradzi Tongai and Bruce Kangwa were also retained with strikers Graham Ncube and Mgcini Sibanda, also a product of the juniors.

To reinforce the strike force after the departure of Vincent Nzombe, Highlanders acquired the services of Chikaka, who had a brief stint with Botswana’s Tafic from mid-last year after leaving Chikwata. Mambare from the Mighty Bulls is also an attacking midfielder who head coach Kelvin Kaindu can juggle forward. Arnold “Majaivana” Tshuma and Botswana returnee Marshal Machazane appeared to have impressed Kaindu, who has been through a rigorous talent search that saw Bosso’s final squad being released yesterday, a day before the PSL registration deadline. Highlanders lost captain Gilbert Banda and midfielder Louis Matawu to FC Platinum while Rahman Kutsanzira joined Caps United.

Brighton Choto last year suffered an injury that has sidelined him from the team, Gift “Thebe” Lunga hung his boots and is now a juniors’ coach while veteran defender Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu is now assistant to Kaindu.
