The MDC-T has suspended Marondera mayor Farai Nyandoro from the party for five years for reportedly flouting tender procedures and wining and dining with senior Zanu PF officials in Mashonaland East province.

A Mashonaland East provincial ad hoc party committee set up to probe Nyandoro pressed 12 charges against him and found him guilty of being too close to Zanu PF and abusing his office among other issues.

MDC-T organising secretary Nelson Chamisa confirmed they were dealing with the matter internally.

Nyandoro is accused of engaging Mashonaland East provincial governor Aeneas Chigwedere as technical advisor and was reportedly spotted with the former sole ruling party provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde.

In a suspension letter, MDC-T provincial secretary James Jowa said: Given the way the Mayors Cheer Fund was conducted, the committee took the view that one would inevitably suspect a strong Zanu PF hand in controlling, directing and executing the course of events at the launch for a council in which MDC-T controls 100% seats in the chamber.

Nyandoro also allegedly invited Zanu PF provincial commissar Lawrence Katsiru and District Coordinating Committee chairperson for Marondera yet according to the MDC-T they were responsible for terrorising their supporters.

In fact, the committee feels that you are either an implant or you have been seriously compromised by Zanu PF whose shenanigans betray an agenda to infiltrate and divide.

Nyandoro was also found guilty of allocating stands to mainly Zanu PF supporters contravening section 3 sub section 3,1 of the MDC-T constitution which reads: Acts in collaboration with another political organisation in a manner which is contrary to the achievements of the aims and objects of the MDC-T.

In suspending Nyandoro, MDC-T said: The committee noted that the issue of corruption in local authorities has become a thorn in the flesh for the MDC-T and the entire GNU.

But yesterday, Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo said: I am Zanu PF and I will not participate in their internal affairs and it is actually good for us.

The issues are internal whether its between their local government secretary Sesel Zvidzai or Nyandoro, I dont even know the matter maybe its factions or infighting.

It doesnt affect us as long as he (Nyandoro) complies with the Urban Councils Act, he stays. We dont get told what to do in the ministry by the MDC-T.
