MELBOURNE — The Cheetahs were robbed at the death by the Brumbies last weekend, but yesterday they came out on top with an incredible last-gasp try to beat the Rebels 33-26 in Melbourne in a rugby thriller.

The Cheetahs took an early lead thanks to two well-taken tries from wing Willie le Roux inside the fist 15 minutes, but the Rebels fought their way back into the game.

A yellow card for Le Roux in the 28th minute reduced the Cheetahs to 14 men, as the erratic star was deemed to have deliberately slapped the ball down when the rebels were all money for a try. The Rebels scored a fantastic try through the dancing feet of James O’Connor after half-time and the scores were locked in at 20-all. Both sides then traded penalties and at 26-all with no time left on the clock there was a moment of magic – first Ashley Johnson snuck through a half gap and then got his off-load to Sias Ebersohn, the replacement flyhalf flicked a pass out to Piet van Zyl, who pinned his ears back and won the footrace against Mark Gerrard to the corner for an incredible match-winning try. — Rugby365.com
