Bolton Wanderers’ English Premier League fixture away to Aston Villa on Tuesday has been postponed following Fabrice Muamba’s collapse, officials have announced.

The match at Villa Park was postponed at Bolton’s request, the league said today.

Bolton midfielder Muamba remains in a “critical condition” in intensive care after suffering a cardiac arrest during Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal at Tottenham. The match was abandoned.

It quickly became apparent the Bolton players were in no state to fulfil Tuesday’s fixture and the Premier League will now rearrange the game for later in the season.

Bolton’s next scheduled fixture is a Premier League match on Saturday at home to Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Wanderers said on their website the decision to postpone the Villa game came after talks with the Birmingham club and EPL officials.

“The club would like to thank Aston Villa and the Premier League for their kind support and understanding at this time,” the statement said.

“A new date for this fixture will be announced in due course.”-Supersport
