Reigate district scooped 18 gold medals to emerge winners of the Nestle Zimbabwe-sponsored inter-district track and field events at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) yesterday.

Mzilikazi district was second with 17 gold medals while Imbizo collected nine. Khami and Bulawayo Central had three gold medals each, but the fourth place went to Khami after they grabbed 15 silver while Central had nine.

7,88secs. Third was Lydia White of Imbizo district who clocked one minute 8,31secs.

Reigate scooped another gold medal in the boys’ Under-13 400m race after Brendon Nkomo romped home first in one minute 4secs while Mzilikazi claimed silver from Archford Faira of Mzilikazi who followed closely in one minute 6secs.

Prince Dlamini from Bulawayo Central came third in a time of one minute 6,32 secs.

Reigate were on fire as they grabbed another gold medal in the Under-14 girls 400m race after Buhlebenkosi Moyo came first in a time of one minute 6secs while Annflow Kanyama of Imbizo crossed the line in one minute 7secs. Yolanda Ndlovu of Mzilikazi was third in one minute 8secs.

Nestle Southern Region Sales manager Munyaradzi Mberengwa said they were happy with the competition displayed by the five districts from Bulawayo.

“The response to the competition was very good and well organised. The athletes put up remarkable performances. We have sponsored primary schools because they are the grassroots and backbone of any community,” he said. The national finals will be staged in Harare on March 28 and 29.
