Shabanie Mine Football Club coach Luke Masomere has retained the core of the team that ensured a successful fight against relegation last season after naming his final 25-man squad for the 2012 Castle Lager Premiership campaign.

Masomere’s squad includes 13 players who did duty last season.

Caleb Masocha has been in terrific form this off-season while the experience of Tafadzwa Mombeshora will count in midfield.

Striker Farai Mususunye, who had been snapped up by FC Platinum, returns to Maglas Stadium after spending last season on loan at Central Soccer League side ZimAlloys.

The squad, which does not have high-profile signings, also includes teenage striker Tonderayi Charles, who had torched a heated ownership wrangle between Shabanie Mine and Chicken Inn. Former ZimAlloys anchorman Blessed Mbavaira is in the squad while Gifford Muchiwa from Hardbody managed to charm Masomere. Shabanie secretary Elias Marufu is adamant the squad will make waves this season.

“We are happy with the squad we have assembled. We are now looking forward to the new season and hope to do our best. The players are capable of carrying us through the season and maybe we can win something,” said Marufu.

Marufu said the coach had left room to accommodate five more players, with immediate attention being given to the goalkeeping department where there is only Victor Twaliki and Roy Mazingi.

Michael Chigonero joins Shabanie from Gweru Pirates while Eria Phiri is coming in from Blue Ribbon. Promoted from the club’s development side is Malvin Senyeka.
