Three Mutare women were arrested on Saturday over allegations of kidnapping a 17-year-old teenager and holding her hostage for two days demanding $5 owed to them by a debtor whose relationship with the teenager has not yet been established.

Police finally caught up with the captors two days after they took captive of the teenager, whom they assaulted several times using an electric cable.

The three are Lisa Chadambuka (27), Tafadzwa Munyaka (20) and Ruriwa Matinya(22). On March 7 the three teamed up and went to one Nestai Hlatshwayo’s house in Dangamvura suburb to demand their money allegedly owed by Hlatshwayo.

They reportedly failed to locate her and in a fit of rage, took hostage of the 17-year-old girl. The three are alleged to have force-marched the teenager to their own residence in the same area.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Enock Chishiri said they thrashed the girl several times all over the body using electric cables.

They allegedly detained her for two days demanding $5 owed by Hlatshwayo.

However, Hlatshwayo received information the three had kidnapped the girl over the alleged debt and made a police report on March 9, leading to the arrest of her captors.

They are expected to appear in court soon.

Chishiri urged people to solve their disputes amicably and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
