Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu, who represented the country well at the Top Model of the World pageant, is expected to land at the Harare International Airport on Friday from Germany aboard an Emirates flight at 5:25pm.

She made not only Zimbabwe, but Africa, proud by being crowned Top Model of the World first runner-up.

Hildah Mulenga, Top Model of the World director for Zimbabwe and Zambia, said Mushandu had reached the highest position by any African model at the pageant. She overtook Vanessa Sibanda who was placed second runner-up last year.

For winning, Mushandu received a cash prize of $3 000 and additional prizes worth €3 000 from Lacomed.

She also received a scuba diving outfit, shoes and sport shirt from Cressi and cosmetic products from Santé.

Besides the prizes, Mushandu will substitute winner Luna Voce (Italy) if she is committed to other engagements.

Mercy “Catwalk” Mushaninga of ZimGossip Models who groomed Mushandu promised a hero’s welcome for the beauty queen when she lands on Friday.

“I have co-ordinated a lot of models and other people to go to the airport in numbers to welcome the queen of catwalk, ” said Mushaninga.

“Malaika has proved to the world that she can do it as she managed to make it to the top twice. She is my Naomi Campbell.”

She also urged businesspeople to support the national queen.

“It is high time people knew about and appreciated Mushandu’s modelling talent. We all have to support her.”

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) public relations and protocol manager Salome Chari said ZTA staff and tourism players would welcome the national queen at the airport.
