Bulawayo’s Joshua Mqabuko International Airport went for almost a week without water last week following a pipe burst at the complex.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) had to bring water bowsers to the airport to save the situation.

Zinwa Gwayi catchment area manager Fortune Musoni yesterday said the airport ran dry on Tuesday prompting them to bring bowsers.

He said the burst pipe was difficult to repair and Zinwa had to enlist the services of expert engineers to fix the pipeline, which passes through a number of farms.

Musoni said he was not sure about the cause of the pipe burst.

“The pipe was damaged for about three to four days. On Friday the situation was rectified. “However, before that, water was supplied through bowsers,’’ Musoni said.

“The water was pumped into the reservoirs and distributed to different places the way it would be when things are normal.

“The burst pipe has since been fixed and things are back to normal.”

President Robert Mugabe used the airport on Thursday on his way to officiate at the traditional chiefs’ annual conference which ended on Saturday at the Large City Hall.
