KAROI Five robbers who ransacked several shops, schools and homes and stole property worth US$6 500 in Hurungwe and Gokwe areas were arrested last week.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the arrest of Clever Muyambo (26), Emmanuel Mahachi (26), Toddy Maketo (37), Abel Kamanura (37) all of Chiedza in Karoi and Anyway Chitera (30) of Chiperevere village, Chief Dandawa in Hurungwe. Police said the five will appear in court soon facing 34 cases of unlawful entry. Property valued at US$3 000 was recovered.

According to police, from September 2011 to March 1, this year, the five teamed up and stole several properties from schools, shops, veterinary offices and homes.

Schools robbed include Nyangoma Primary and Secondary schools, St Michaels Secondary school, Dicks Primary and Secondary schools , Pote Secondary school, Kapiri Primary school, Dete Secondary school, Mutore Primary school and Garangwe Primary school.

Several shops at various business centres such as Tchoda in Gokwe North, Kanyaga, Chivende, Fuleche and Deve were also ransacked by the gang. Government veterinary offices at Magunje and Kajekache were not spared.

Several valuables including electrical goods, farm inputs and clothes among others were recovered. Clever Muyambo robbed one, Judith Munetsi (34) of 2333 Chiedza, Karoi in February. He was arrested as he was allegedly selling Judiths DVD and gave away his accomplices.

Police have appealed to the public to come and identify their stolen property at CID Karoi.
