Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA) secretary-general Brian Manuel says they are looking forward to improved standards of play when the 2012 league season starts next week.

Teams expected to participate in the league in the men’s category are ZRP Raiders, Highlanders, The Great Churchill, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) and Railstars. Unit Fairbridge, Midlands State University (MSU), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), ZPC Hwange and ZPC Bulawayo complete the list of teams in the men’s section.

Highlanders, MSU, ZRP Raiders and NUST are expected to battle it out in the women’s section when the league starts on March 15-16.

“We are looking forward to a great improvement in the quality of volleyball in the BVA League this year. “Judging from what we saw during the pre-season tournament, there will be stiff competition. The coming-in of new teams into the league is going to increase the level of competition as well,” he said.

Diamonds (women) and Cats (men) from Gweru are the new teams that will be making their debut appearance in the BVA League this year.

Teams have to part with $75 for club registration, $30 team registration and $5 per player and official registration before the league starts.

ZRP Raiders (women) and Railstars (men) will be hoping to continue from where they left off as they won the pre-season tournament last month while other teams will want to raise their game ahead of the start of the season.

The teams are also expected to use the first games in the league to prepare for the Zimbabwe Open Volleyball Tournament which is set for Bulawayo on March 24-25.
