The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested MDC-T Kariba MP Cleopas Machacha for allegedly misappropriating Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations as more heads are expected to roll in the continued crackdown on MPs.

The ACC yesterday confirmed the arrest of the Kariba MP.

“Yes, we picked him up today (yesterday) and he will appear in court soon,” said an ACC source.

The source said the ACC was also seeking to arrest Tsholotsho South MDC-T MP Maxwell Dube and Hurungwe North Zanu PF MP Peter Chanetsa.

Pumula MDC-T MP Albert Mhlanga, who was not on the original list of MPs fingered by Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs minister Eric Matinenga last month, has since appeared in court. He is out on bail.

St Mary’s MDC-T MP Marvellous Khumalo and Mangunje Zanu PF MP Franco Ndambakuwa were the first to be arrested last month over the same allegations.

Matinenga told journalists last month 10 MPs — six from Zanu PF and four from MDC-T — failed to submit returns to prove whether the $50 000 each got from the CDF in 2010 was appropriately used.

National Healing co-minister Sekai Holland (MDC-T Senator, Mabvuku/Tafara), Public Service minister Lucia Matibenga (MDC-T MP, Kuwadzana) and Health and Child Welfare deputy minister Douglas Mombeshora (Zanu PF MP, Mhangura) have also been fingered.

The other MPs are Edward Chindori-Chininga (Zanu PF, Guruve South), Lawrence Mavima (Zanu PF, Zvishavane-Runde), Naison Nemadziva (MDC-T, Buhera South) and Abraham Sithole (Zanu PF, Chiredzi East).
