Champion Mweene gets land, cows

KABWE — Zambia Africa Cup of Nations-winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has been rewarded for his heroics at the football tournament with a plot of land and two cows by a local chief.

Mweene was picked as the best goalkeeper at the biennial championship.

Mweene was given 250 hectares of land and two cows in Mkushi by Chief Kanyensha in appreciation of his heroics at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

The Free State Stars of South Africa goalkeeper was also mobbed in the Zambian central regional town of Kabwe by fans.

Mweene was on his way to the rural town of Mkushi, where he was honoured by a local chief.

The goalkeeper was spotted and tailed by a crowd in Kabwe to the Central Province Permanent Secretary’s office, where he had gone to pay a courtesy call en route to Mkushi.

Fans fought to shake his hands, while some asked for favours from him.
