The Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) will tomorrow host the official launch of the 2012 National Paralympics Games in Hwange.

The local organising committee is expected to brief stakeholders on Matabeleland North Provinces preparedness to host the fifth edition of the games. This years games will be held in Hwange from April 8-12.

In a statement, the SRC said the aim of the launch was to develop a roadmap for the games and to facilitate the inspection of facilities, including venues and accommodation.

The statement read: To afford the Matabeleland North an opportunity to apprise delegates on the state of preparedness to host the fifth edition of the Zimbabwe National Paralympic Games; to develop and agree on the road- map leading up to the Games; to induct provinces into key games implementation documents, including the games regulations, Games technical rules, dispute resolution and games accreditation procedures and to facilitate an inspection visit of accommodation facilities and sport venues earmarked for the Games.

General managers for the Paralympic Games from the countrys 10 provinces will converge in Hwange for briefings from the local organising committee secretariat before being addressed by the principal director in the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture, Paul Damasane, and the Matabeleland North Provincial Education director Boithatelo Mnguni.

The game venues to be inspected are Hwange Colliery Stadium, Don Bosco College, Lwendulu Hall, No 1 Old Ground and Sports pavilion, Nechibondo and Megawatt schools, Megawatt Tennis Court and Hwange High School.

Mines and Mining Development minister Obert Mpofu was expected to officially launch the games.
