UNWTO delegation expected

A delegation from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is expected in the country today for its first inspection visit of facilities in Victoria Falls ahead of the general assembly next year.

Officials from the UNWTO are scheduled to visit four times to assess the country’s preparedness.

“The inspection team from the UNWTO was in Lusaka, Zambia, from February 27 to 28 and they will be in Zimbabwe for three days,” said an official from the Tourism and Hospitality ministry.

Work has already begun on the construction of a multi-million-dollar convention centre in the resort town.

The convention centre will have a seating capacity of 3 000 to 5 000 and also house adjustable committee rooms, a golf course, a five-star and a three-star hotel.

Cabinet has since put in place eight sub-committees to ensure accomplishment of outstanding tasks and an integrated approach to planning to ensure successful hosting of the event.
