A Chegutu husband and wife, who are members of an apostolic church sect, are facing rape charges after they allegedly connived to rape a 13-year-old girl, whom the husband wanted to take for a wife.

The couple yesterday appeared before magistrate Fabian Feshete who remanded them in custody to March 12.

The pair was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

It is alleged that sometime in September last year at Gathena Farm in Selous, the couple went to the complainants house at Plot 5 Chiduku Farm, Knowe in Norton, where they asked for her parentsconsent to let them take her to a church gathering which was being held at their farm.

The woman is a relative to the complainant. The State averred that upon arrival at Gathena Farm, the wife prepared a room in which her husband and the girl would sleep for the night.

During the night, it is alleged, the wife entered the room in which her husband and the female juvenile were sleeping. She allegedly pinned the girl down while her husband raped her. It was not stated in court papers how many times the girl was sexually abused.

Upon her return home recently, the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents who reported the matter to the police, leading to the pairs arrest. Gracious Chaminuka prosecuted.
