ZVIMBA Police have called on parents and guardians to constantly warn their children on the dangers of crossing flooded rivers.

The call follows the drowning of two sisters, Tecla (5) and Moreblessing Piti (9), in Zvimba last Thursday. Mashonaland West Province deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera, said the pair was coming from school and drowned as they attempted to cross a flooded stream leading to their family farm.

The now deceased persons attempted to cross the flooded stream, but were overpowered by the currents and drowned, Kohwera said.

Another child, Tafadzwa Dede (9), who was in the company of the pair, reportedly witnessed the incident and rushed to inform the girls mother Eunice Mutota who rushed to the stream, but found them already dead.
