KAROI — A 31-year-old woman, who tried to use a fake Ordinary Level certificate to secure employment as a temporary teacher, has been slapped with a three-month jail sentence.

It was the State’s case that on January 22, the accused, Chipo Gwasira of Kazangarare growth point in Ward 9, went to Karoi Junior School where she presented a fake certificate to Hurungwe North circuit education officer Rodwell Mugwagwa-Mapanda.

Gwasira, the State further alleged, was subsequently engaged by the government as a temporary teacher stationed at Mupuse Primary School.

The court heard following a tip-off, the Public Service Commission instituted investigations which led to the discovery her certificate, number Z2180/122, was fake.

The State alleged the accused did not write the November 1997 exams at Zarura Secondary School in Karoi as reflected on the fake certificate.

It was established the centre number for Zarura Secondary School was Z2450 and not Z2180, which belonged to Mavhudzi Secondary School, Rusape.

Gwasira pleaded guilty and will spend the next two months behind bars after magistrate Robson Finsin suspended one month for three years on condition she does not within that period commit any offence involving forgery.

Benjamin Negato prosecuted.
