KWEKWE — A security guard at Kwekwe Polytechnic is in trouble after he allegedly attempted to rape a female student he caught being intimate with a boyfriend in a lecture room.
Pedzisai Takawira (29) appeared before provincial magistrate Taurai Manuwere facing allegations of attempting to rape the student on January 28.
According to court papers, Takawira caught the girl, who stays at the college campus, with her boyfriend in the evening. He allegedly dismissed the boyfriend and took the girl to the lecture room for a “pep talk”.
While the two were alone, the guard is alleged to have demanded sex so he could sweep the case under the carpet. He warned the student risked expulsion from college if the matter was reported to the authorities.
The State alleges the woman refused to be intimate with the guard, but he reportedly pulled her to a nearby toilet before stripping her naked.
She then screamed, forcing the alleged would-be rapist to run away. The student returned to her hostel where she told friends about the incident, but did not report it to the police.
The matter was only reported after one of her friends informed a lecturer who called the police. Defence lawyer Valentine Mutatu said his client was a victim of politics at his workplace.
He said Takawira would plead not guilty when the matter is heard on March 24. Takawira is out of custody on $100 bail.
