KADOMA — Residents in Kadoma’s Waverley suburb last week meted out instant mob justice to a suspected burglar by pelting him with logs and stones until he died.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Serious Gezani (28).

The incident occurred on Wednesday night after Gezani was allegedly caught red-handed breaking onto Ronald Mashaike’s house.

When Gezani attempted to flee from the house the family gave chase while raising the alarm, which drew the attention of neighbours.

“The now-deceased was apprehended and a generator, soap, a pair of socks and a kitchen knife which were stolen from the house were recovered,” Mabgweazara said.

The mob which had gathered then assaulted Gezani, who sustained serious injuries all over the body.

“He sustained two deep cuts on the left leg, a swollen head and was bleeding profusely from the mouth.

“The now-deceased was then rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.”
