LUPANE — A 69-year-old man, Lazarus Ndlovu from Gudubhu village, is alleged to have, on several occasions, intercepted a 12-year old girl on her way to school, fondled and sucked her breasts calling her his “wife”.
It is alleged that sometime between December last year and January this year, the girl’s teacher noticed that she had become a latecomer at school, which was unusual.
The teacher asked her the reasons for her lateness.
The girl is alleged to have said that she was now using a longer route to avoid Ndlovu who always stopped her and indecently assaulted her.
The girl revealed Ndlovu on several occasions allegedly stopped her, fondled and sucked her breasts calling her “my wife”.
She said she was fearful of the old man and was scared to report the matter.
School authorities later reported the matter to the police, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest.
Ndlovu appeared before Lupane magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba on Wednesday facing indecent assault charges.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to February 29 on $200 bail.
He was also ordered not to interfere with the witness and not to visit her home until the case is finalised.
