The Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust (CFZT) has rescued the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) with a grant towards the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama).

The $10 600 grant announced yesterday is likely to be directed towards the prize monies for the winners this year.

From last week speculation had been rife that the struggling council was likely to give winners of the 11th accolades and certificates alone after failing to attract sponsors.

Chipo Muvezwa of the CFZT confirmed the donation yesterday and said the money was specifically for the awards.

Audrey Charamba, the assistant director arts promotions and development at NACZ, said they have always enjoyed a cordial relationship with the CFZT. I cannot really say much at the moment, but Culture Fund has always assisted us. We enjoy a cordial relationship, she said.

The previous two annual award ceremonies have seen winners walking away with a paltry $100 as the council had been failing to secure funding.
