KADOMA — A member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Neighbourhood Watch Committee, Brian Kusauka (32), was last week brought before the courts for allegedly soliciting for a mountain bike and $40 cash as bribe in exchange for the freedom of an accused person he had arrested for domestic violence.

The State case led by Reginald Chavora is that on January 21 at Plot 53, Queensdale, Eiffel Flats in Kadoma, the accused arrested James Kanyama who had allegedly assaulted his wife.

The court heard the accused handcuffed Kanyama before force-marching him to his house where he was detained overnight.

The accused reportedly asked Kanyama to give him an undisclosed amount of money in exchange for his liberty.

Kanyama, the court further heard, requested his relatives to raise the money which the accused was demanding.

It is alleged Kanyama’s relatives managed to raise $40 and a mountain bicycle valued at $60.

Kanyama was set free immediately after the accused received the cash and bike, before a report was made to the police leading to Kusauka’s arrest. Magistrate Elisha Singano remanded the accused to March 7 on $50 bail.
