Top local female boxer Monalisa Sibanda leaves the country today for Zambia where she is billed to meet Esther Phiri in a rescheduled World International Boxing Association (Wiba) and the World International Boxing Organisation (Wibo) unification light-welterweight title fight in Ndola on Friday night.
The 10-round bout which had been postponed three times, will now be held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in the Zambian capital. Phiri, one of Zambias most celebrated sports personalities, is the current Wibo and Wiba champion.
Sibanda former sparring partner of Phiri is the national light-welterweight female boxing champion. In an interview with NewsDay Sport yesterday the female pugilists trainer, local boxing legend Clyde Musonda, said Sibanda was ready for the big fight.
Monalisa is in very good shape at the moment and shes determined to bring the two belts back to Zimbabwe.
Remember the fight was postponed on four occasions for various reasons, but we continued training.
Sibanda and Phiri were sparring mates for a long time and know each other very well and I think this will work in our favour.
The only setback is that Sibanda will have to injure a long journey by road just a couple of days before the fight as we have not managed to secure funds for an air ticket, said Musonda.
