KADOMA A 27-year-old man who allegedly raped his brothers maid claimed he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol.

According to State papers, on February 5 at night, the accused from village 19, Muzvezve, Sanyati force-opened the door to the room in which the complainant was sleeping.

After gaining entry the accused allegedly raped the victim once despite her pleas for mercy.

The State, led by Charles Muchemwa, alleged that following the rape, the complainant, whose age was not given, lit a candle and identified the rapist as a younger brother to her employer.

The court heard the complainant asked the accused why he had raped her, to which he allegedly replied he was drunk.

The accused was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Elisha Singano. He was remanded in custody to February 24.
