CHINHOYI A senior Chinhoyi court official found himself on the wrong side of the law last week after he allegedly raped his maid.

The official, whose indentity cannot be named in order to protect the victim, works at the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court.

The State alleges that on February 7 the suspect arrived home around 2am from a beerdrink and found the complainant ironing some clothes in the familys sitting room.

He allegedly made sexual advances to the maid but was turned down.

This allegedly did not go down well with the court official who dragged the maid to his bedroom and raped her once before threatening her with unspecified action if she revealed the incident to anyone.

However, the complainant reported the rape to her uncle, who advised her to report the matter to the police.

Officials at Chinhoyi Central Police Station attended the scene and referred the maid to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for a medical examination.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Clemence Mabweazara said the suspect handed himself to the police in the company of his lawyers.

He briefly appeared in court on Friday where he was remanded to February 23 and released on free bail.
