Edward Dhliwayo from Mayambara, Chitungwiza, who allegedly had a finger chopped off by his wife during a domestic dispute, yesterday told a Chitungwiza court he had endured regular beatings from his spouse.

Dhliwayo’s middle finger was allegedly chopped off with a hoe by his wife, Tinotenda Chitange, last Friday.

“I have never abused my wife in any way because I love her. Even after she severely attacked me like this I still love her,” he said.

“But I am not sure whether her love is genuine because she keeps on threatening me saying she will one day kill me.”

During cross-examination, Chitange admitted telling her husband that she had other lovers because he neglected his family.

“I told him that because he did not provide anything for me, he is drinking too much,” she said.

Chitange was remanded in custody to tomorrow for continuation of the trial.
