Badminton schools tournament defending champions Prince Edward School (PE) retained their title after beating other seven schools that took part in the tourney on Saturday.

The host school was crowned champions after accumulated 16 points in a tournament that was played on a round-robin format.

Mabelreign Girls High came second despite playing against a dominantly male schools line-up. They were just four points behind the eventual winners.

Other schools that participated in the annual tournament, which serves as the badminton season opener, include St Georges, who were tied on third position with Churchill Boys High on 10 points, Mazowe High and Ellis Robins, who had six and four points respectively.

Westridge came last after accumulating just two points.

Badminton Association of Zimbabwe secretary-general Ngonidzashe Mhinda said: We were expecting 10 schools, but the other three could not make it.

The tournament went on very well though and I can safely say it was a success. The schools that participated gave it all. All the players who participated were given certificates.

We had former players who came to support us while parents came to support their kids. The attendance was OK.
