Harare Otters Swimming Club were crowned winners of the 2012 Mashonaland Junior Swimming Championships which took place at Les Brown Swimming Complex in the capital over the weekend.

Otters swimmers put up a polished performance to dominate the medal podium and ensure their club finished the two-day championships on top of the team rankings with 639 points ahead of Sharks on 497 points while Spartans were in third place on 442 points.

Otters owed their victory to the brilliant performances from the trio of Nomvula Mjimba and siblings Bruce and Bryan Chiang, who contributed the most points after dominating their age groups.

Nine-year-old Mjimba was in a class of her own after contributing 48 points followed by Spartans Amu Valela with 34 points.

Not to be outdone for Sharks was the trio of Katai Donata (7), Roy Johnstone (8) and Mathew Stephens (11) who contributed 32, 37 and 36 points respectively.

Highlands went on to finish a distant fifth on 208,50 points, behind Pirates on 354,50 points and ahead of Dorado and Marlins, who failed to make an impression, finishing sixth and seventh respectively.

Bryan (8) and Bruce (10) also dominated their respective age groups with 35 and 50 points respectively, as well as contributing in the relays.
