MBEMBESI Acting Chief Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna, assisted by Chief Ndondo of Mbembesi, will soon hold a meeting with members of the two communities in a bid to identify people buried in unknown graves discovered at Ntabazinduna police training depot.

Matabeleland North Governor Sithokozile Mathuthu yesterday told NewsDay the meeting would also involve district administrators from Bubi and Umguza districts.

The meeting to identify those graves will be held soon with members of the community.

The people there would be best placed to know either who is buried there or what happened for those people to be buried there, said Mathuthu, without giving an exact date on when the meeting would be held.

Acting Chief Ndiweni promised us that the meeting would be held as soon as possible.

They have to follow all the cultural steps as this is a delicate matter which has to be dealt with carefully. Last Thursday, police, after a passout parade in the depot, for the first time revealed that they discovered two gravesites in 2004 when they took over the premises from the Ministry of Youth.

The two gravesites have since been fenced off. The first one is on the eastern side of the depot and the second one on the western side close to a place where the Police Commissioner-General and invited guests dine after passout parades.

Chabata said they had scant information on exactly how many graves were on the depot and wanted to identify who is lying where.
