Veteran journalist Bornwell Chakaodza (60), who died in Harare on Wednesday morning, will be buried in Guruve tomorrow.

Chakaodza, former editor of The Standard and The Herald, and former Director of Information in the then Ministry of Information, Posts and Telecommunications, succumbed to bowel cancer after battling the disease for four years.

The body of the late veteran journalist lay in state at his Bluffhill residence last night and will leave for Guruve today before burial tomorrow.

A church service attended by fellow journalists, colleagues and members of civic society was held yesterday. Family spokesperson Augustine Rupende said: He will be buried tomorrow in Guruve and the body will leave Harare tomorrow afternoon (today).

Among those who attended Chakaodzas funeral wake yesterday were Alpha Media Holdings Chief Executive Officer Raphael Khumalo, former colleagues at The Standard and The Herald as well as other colleagues in journalism.

Chakaodza was described by many as a humble journalist who had time to share his wisdom with fellow newsmen.

Chakaodza was appointed Director of Information in 1993. In 1998, he was seconded to the State-controlled Herald as editor before being appointed managing director of Zimpapers Newspaper Division.

He then became editor of The Standard in 2002, taking over from the late Mark Chavunduka. At the time of his death, Chakaodza was working as a media consultant.
