Sixty tennis players from Bulawayo will be in Harare from February 17-20 for trials with the Zimbabwe schools tennis team which will be travelling for a tournament in South Africa at the end of next month.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Tennis Board chairman Adam Joelson yesterday confirmed the province will be sending 30 girls and 30 boys from schools around the city for the trials.

“There are three categories for the Under-15, U-17 and U-19s and each age category will comprise of 10 players from both the girls’ and boys’ sections,” Joelson said.

Provincial trials have taken place and training is underway with the girls practicing on Saturdays at Girls’ College, while the boys are training at Christian Brothers’ College on Saturdays and Sundays.

“The preparations for the trials in Harare are going on very well. Everything is on course and we are hoping most of our children will make it into the team that will be travelling to South Africa. It will be good exposure for them if they go there,” Joelson said.

The girls’ team from Bulawayo comprises mostly of students from Girls’ College, Dominican Convent with one from Masiye Phambili. Joelson is one of the girls’ coaches while Artwell Mutape of Falcon College in Esigodini, is in charge of the boys.
