Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), publisher of NewsDay, The Zimbabwe Independent and the Standard has restructured its senior editorial management, chairman Trevor Ncube announced on Thursday.

Constantine Chimakure has been appointed as Editor of NewsDay and former Editor of the paper Brian Mangwende as Group Associate Editor, while award-winning investigative reporter Dumisani Muleya takes over as Editor of the Zimbabwe Independent.

The appointments are with effect from February 1. Chimakure was, before his new appointment, Editor of the Zimbabwe Independent while Muleya has been promoted from his former position of Assistant Editor of the same paper. Mangwende will lead the AMH investigative team and the Group Political Desk.

Ncube said: The intention is to familiarise our senior managers with each brand and to match an individual’s skills set and experience with their interests. We are empowering our pool of talent to be able to work across all our products.

AMH Editor-in-Chief Vincent Kahiya said: The new appointments are part of a major restructuring exercise as AMH forges ahead with plans to streamline and modernise newsroom operations. The restructuring exercise should culminate in the establishment of a converged content generation factory publishing on various platforms.

Muleya has won various awards including the prestigious CNN/Multichoice African Journalists Awards in 2006 when he was awarded the Free Press Africa Award for sterling investigative reporting. He is one of the longest-serving journalists in the group having joined the Zimbabwe Independent as a reporter in 1998.

Chimakure joined the Zimbabwe Independent as News Editor in 2007 and was promoted to Editor in 2010.Mangwende joined NewsDay as Assistant Editor in 2010 from The Financial Gazette where he was News Editor.

He rose to the position of Deputy Editor the same year and eventually Editor early last year.
