Progress Chipfumo has scoffed at the rumour he had died which circulated on various social network sites yesterday morning.

Many people sent condolence messages on social networks as the rumour spread throughout the day. Chipfumo has not been feeling well over the past month after being diagnosed with tuberculosis.

In an interview with NewsDay yesterday Proggy, as he is widely referred to, said he was actually recovering.

I am almost fit now. People say all kinds of things and it is expected especially when someone is unwell, said Proggy.

In fact I am raring to go. I have a show in Dzivarasekwa tonight (yesterday), so if anyone has doubts then they should come see for themselves.

His wife Sindiswa Khumalo also laughed off the reports and said they were malicious.

We have received numerous calls concerning that. At first we thought the rumour was being spread by Proggys enemies, but we are realising that it is just one of those things that happens when one is ill, she said.

Patson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions, who happens to be a close friend to Proggy, said he first heard the rumour last week.

This is not the first time that a celebrity has been falsely reported dead. The late Prince Tendai Mupfurutsa was reported to have died many months before his eventual death.

Leonard Zhakata and Somandla Ndebele were also rumoured dead some years ago.

Both went on to pen songs on the issue.
