African Medical Investments (AMI) Hospital says it is expanding its facilities to world-class standards. The hospital, which opened its doors in March last year, has sophisticated theatres, 24-hour accident and emergency services, an intensive care unit and a high care unit.

AMI chief executive Peter Botha said they were working on expanding the hospital.

We are currently reviewing opportunities to increase operational and financial efficiencies including acquisition of equipment to drive up demand for theatre usage, Botha said.

It will also be increasing onsite bed capacity, converting the original radiology wing to create a paediatrics section, increasing offsite bed capacity through nearby facility to gain access to medical beds and long stay surgical cases, he added.

The 18-bed surgical and medical facility consists of six two-bed wards and two private wards.

All wards are ensuite with television sets and satellite decoders for each patient.

The high care unit comprises four beds which can support high care medical, surgical or cardiac care patients.

One of them can be upgraded to intensive care unit. Other features at the hospital include three consulting rooms for outpatients, general practitioners, gynaecological consultants or any medical review by consultants.

The consulting rooms are supported by two state-of-the art operating theatres.

The organisation also operates hospitals in Tanzania and Mozambique.
