The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ), in conjunction with the Media Institute of Southern Africa Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, will on Saturday hold a campaign to encourage people to donate blood in memory of late broadcaster Freedom Moyo.

The event set for the NBSZ offices will particularly target the adult population, which consumes 80% of donated blood.

NBSZ spokesperson Esther Massundah said they would offer free transport to their offices in Belgravia, Harare, with a bus leaving Town House at 10am.

A similar event will be held concurrently in Bulawayo at the NBSZs United Bulawayo Hospital branch. The initiative has been organised by friends of Freedom as a sign of appreciation for NBSZs efforts to save him when he lost large quantities of blood, Masundah said.

We organised two units of blood and his colleagues are appreciative. His predicament has conscientised the entire journalistic fraternity to realise and appreciate the importance of donating blood. Moyo died last Tuesday, four days after he was involved in a serious accident in Harare.
