Striker Rodreck Mutuma is staying put at Dynamos and will play for the Zimbabwe champions this term after he returned from a stint with South African Premiership side Cape Town Ajax.

The Dynamos striker flew back home on Wednesday night from South Africa, where he had gone for an attachment with Cape Town Ajax a development which comes as a relief to coach Calisto Pasuwa who has been facing the prospects of losing his key strikers registered for the Champions League campaign.

He trained with his teammates yesterday. There have been genuine fears Mutuma the top goalscorer in the league last season with 14 goals could sign for the Super Diski side after he joined the club in what was thought to be a trial for the striker.

But the players manager Edzai Kasinauyo allayed those fears when he revealed yesterday that while the player had done very well and impressed the club during the trial, he was not going to sign for them.

He insisted the player had not gone for trials, but to be exposed with a view to making him a better player.

Kasinauyo said Mutuma would remain a Dynamos player and would be part of the squad that would play in this seasons African Champions League and the domestic league.

He said his attachment with Cape Town Ajax was for exposure and although Ajax Cape Town were impressed with him, they did not make an offer because the arrangement was not for the player to be sold. Kasinauyo said Mutuma caught the eye of the technical department with his goalscoring instincts.

He did very well and everyone was impressed, said Kasinauyo. He played in a number of games and scored an average of two goals per game. He is a good striker with an eye for goal and we will continue to monitor him as he plays for Dynamos in both the league and African Champions League.

We feel this is not the right time for him to move because he still has a lot to learn. We have noticed a number of our talented players who move to join foreign clubs end up failing to scale greater heights leaving us wondering what will have gone wrong.

We are trying to avoid situations like these by making sure he moves when he is ripe for that stage. So Mutuma will play for Dynamos this season and the African Champions League will give him the exposure we want, said Kasinauyo.

Dynamos chairman Keni Mubaiwa also maintained Mutuma was not for sale. I was phoned on Wednesday that Mutuma had impressed at Cape Town Ajax, but our position is that he is not for sale.

He is still young and we need him for the African Champions League. For now we are holding on to the player, said Mubaiwa.

However, the Cape Town Ajax public relations department said they were still waiting for a report from the technical team and that they would make an offer if the technical team showed interest in the player.

With Cuthbert Malajila having agreed terms with Maritzburg United, the departure of Mutuma would have complicated matters for Pasuwa who is also likely to lose Takesure Chinyama following his invitation for trials in Egypt.
