Highlanders Basketball Club started the second half of the Southern Region Basketball League on a good note when they went on a rampage beating ZB Titans 111-35 at Bulawayo Club for the Disabled (BCD) on Friday.

They have played twelve games since the season started in September last year, winning 11 and losing only once to Kings last November.

Highlanders’ good form is largely attributed to players like Michael Zvoushe, Derrick Chiradza, Stewart Woods, Jordan Davies and Tawanda Mudzudza who have been outstanding for the team. Zvoushe collected 43 points, Lionel Smith 18 points while Khalid Fazilahmed weighed in with 11 points.

In another game played on Friday, Giants succumbed to their fourth defeat in the league when they lost 72-68 to Kings.

Giants have played 11 games, won seven and have collected 17 points up to date. Gary Hussey was outstanding for Kings, getting 18 points while Olfie Dollie and Liberty Nyathi collected 10 and eight points each.

On Friday, Abundant Life Christian Centre beat Oilers 63-53. In the women’s section Lakers maintained their stay at the top of the log standings after they beat Kwekwe side Steelers 56-16. Anne Paketh collected 14 points while Lerule Sibanda got 12 points.

Highlanders were awarded 20 points after Hawks failed to pitch up for the match

Hawks have found the going tough in the league so far and are second from the bottom of the eight-team league on five points and without a win.

Giants were also awarded 20 points after Stars also failed to turn up at BCD. Giants have played seven games and are unbeaten in the league while Stars have played seven games and have one victory so far.
