The Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Tennis Board (BMPTB) is holding trials for the province’s schools team to send for selection into the Zimbabwe Schools tennis team that will participate in a tournament in South Africa in March.

The trials for the girls’ team started last Friday at Girls’ College and the province has already come up with the Under-19 girls who will fight for selection into the national team in Harare from February 17-19.

Five from the Dominican Convent Hotencia — Sibanda, Thembela Ndlovu, Lisa Mehlo and Nokuthabo Thaka and Erica Moyo — are part of the team.

Nomankosazana Nkala, Atida Sibanda and Karen Nyakabau from Girls’ College and Bukhali Mukhombwe from Masiye Phambili will also be hoping to make it into the national team next month.

On Saturday, Nicole Dumbutshena, Maxine Nkomo, Tanya Magonya, Ruvimbo Samhanga from onvent and Girls’ College’s Nothando Mashingaidze, Tsungai Makura, Bongai Sigauke and Thembela Mhlophe made it into the Under-17 girls’ team.

Percy Nira and Maxine Matshiya from Girls College and Rowena Homela, Tinashe Mutizwa and Natalie Russell from Convent will be participating in play-offs during the week to make it into the Under-17 girls’ team.

BMPTB chairman Adam Joelson and his team were by yesterday yet to come up with the girls’ Under-15 team.

“Everything has been smooth and there is very high competitiveness and we are hoping to come up with a very strong team,” Joelson said.

The boys’ trials, starting at the weekend, to be co-ordinated by Artwell Mutape of Falcon College in Esigodini, will be held at the Christian Brothers College or the Country Club.
