Tsholotsho Senator Believe Gaule of the MDC formation led by Welshman Ncube has denied claims he wants to contest in elections for the Tsholotsho North House of Assembly seat, held by Zanu PF legislator Jonathan Moyo.

In an interview yesterday, Gaule said he was shocked by the motive behind reports he was interested in the seat.

I want to correct the statement that came out of your paper that I am eyeing the Tsholotsho North House of Assembly seat, he said. I am not even eyeing the Tsholotsho South seat. I am the Senator of the whole of Tsholotsho and I am comfortable with that.

He said his party already had a shadow candidate in Tsholotsho North in the form of Robert Mgezelwa Ncube who lost to Moyo in the 2008 polls.

Last week, MDC organising secretary Qhubani Moyo confirmed his party had already identified candidates for some House of Assembly constituencies in Matabeleland North province, but refused to give names.

He said in terms of the MDC constitution, if there were two or more members interested in becoming candidates in a constituency, primary elections would be held. However, sources told NewsDay Gaule was eyeing the Tsholotsho North seat held by Moyo, who was close to him when they were both members of Zanu PF.

It is important to point out that my party and the people are the ones who will decide if they want me to go for another term as Senator, Gaule said.

With the date of the next harmonised elections uncertain, parties have started preparing for the polls. Zanu PF says it wants elections this year as the coalition government had become dysfunctional.
